scene or seen?

today a building close to our house caught fire. i guess some light fixture burst and the people who were inside put the fire out without any problems. so now that we know that no one was harmed and the building is fine, i would like to point out the fine writing that takes place here in cache valley. a local website stated:

"Reports from the scene indicate that smoke was not scene, however fire crews are certainly at the scene and 100 North has been closed."

emphasis added by me. spelling and excellent grammar done by them.

first, who uses the word SCENE three times in one sentence? no word should be used three times in one sentence.
second, smoke cannot be scene. it can, however, be seen.
and third, hire someone to proofread before you publish things. in fact, i'd be willing to do it for free just to make us folks in cache valley look a little smarter.

Ha ha that cracks me up! I get really bugged at a lot of things like that. The worst is when people say, "Oh I seen that movie." (Or, I "scene" that movie.) Haha. There is a sign by our sink at work that says, "Don't bring bugs home with you, wash 'you' hands. It drives me crazy I just want to rip it down. Ha ha
