"Grownups were telling me that I should sign up because it would be a good way to "network." Once you join, you have to make friends, like a new kid in high school. The prospect of wandering around a crowded electronic lunchroom with a tray of food, hoping to find someone who would let me sit down, did not sound inviting to me. And once someone is your firend, it's like you've told them they can come inside and spray paint intimate details about themselves in your house. Suddenly your Facebook web site is covered with updates about everything that every one of your firends is doing and I mean everything they are doing. I still don't see how it is helping me professionally to be on Facebook. What if someone important agreed to be my friend? They'd see all my other friends are burping, watching TV, playing tag, and kidnapping each other. How would that help me professionally?"
I didn't join Facebook to help me professionally, but I thought his article was so funny. I guess I enjoy Facebook to keep in touch with those who don't have blogs, but I'd much rather read something of substance rather than a 1 line update about what a person is doing at any given moment. Your thoughts?

I just joined facebook too. I'm kinda iffy about it as well. It's like high school all over again. But it makes you feel good when people request to be our friends. ;)
1st- I got your contract, I'll see you on the 20th!
2nd- Looks like your Thanksgiving was perfect.
3rd- I was a Myspacer for YEARS. 3/4 months ago, DELETE. I finally just decided that there was no point in having one. YES I used it to keep in touch with all my friends from Young Americans and such, but then I decided that if people want to keep in touch, they'll keep in touch. Leaving a comment on a picture is just that. A comment about a picture. MEH. But then I say...Well what's this blog thing about? I think that blogspot has more depth personally. People post stories and items with substance, where as facebook/myspace?? Not so much, in my opinion.
4th- I'm done. :)
I recently joined as well. It is pretty highschoolish. Jud hates it. The only thing I enjoyed about it was catching up with friends from San Diego I haven't heard from in years. There are good and bad things about it, but overall I think it is pretty lame :)
I've never been on facebook, and I don't think I want to join after reading that people can put pretty much whatever they want on your page. I think I'm going to stick to blogging.:) BTW, I love reading your blog and seeing what's going on with you. Who would have though sfter all these years we'd have a way to keep in touch?!:)
I totally agree. I am very unimpressed by facebook. I joined it a while ago but I have only been on it like two times because there is nothing there. I way prefer blogging:)
I'm not sure what I think about facebook either. Its like I am in high school all over again sometimes. I only got it to keep in touch with people, but then I never really go there.
I like blogging alot more. It is more personable. :)
haha that article is funny! I've never quite caught on to the whole Facebook cult. But one of Mark's friends is obsessed and everytime we hang out it's "guess who said this on Facebook.." and "She wants to be MY friend... I'm so awesome." No. No you're not if that's the way you rely on making friends.:) Haha but it works as a way of keeping in touch. Let's get together soon!
Honestly, it creeps me out a little bit that people get "updates" on me... I'd rather they just kept their noses out of my beeswax. However, I keep my facebook to keep in touch with old high school friends, far-away family members and people whom I've lost touch with. It's nice to post pics of my little guy and them just be able to comment away, instead of having to go to the post office and buy ridiculously expensive stamps and mail them. Cause mind you, stamps aren't really expensive when you're only buying one, but when you want to send pictures to say... 30 people... yeah, it adds up and soon you've spend more on stamps then picture developing. Yeah, I have issues I know.
i agree and am glad to hear i'm not the only one who isn't so sure about the facebook thing!
I concur! I have a facebook but never use it. Blogs are much much better. But the facebook is worldwide and CT and I have found many mission friends and investigators on facebook. My mission pres even has a site. So for that purpose its good. But I never post anything there... hardly anyway.
