your mom goes to college

ah, graduation. the day you think will never come. you spend four + years of your life on what feels like a never-ending road to nowhere... but alas, there is an end, and it has finally come for muah.

i received my bachelor's of science degree in english with an emphasis in professional and techincal communication. when you tell people you have an english degree, they assume you're going to be a teacher or jobless. i hope to be neither. professional and technical communication involves a myriad of things, including website design, document design, writing grants, proposals, and even exciting things like instruction sets. for now, i'm going to keep working at my current job as a contract administrator because a) i love my job, b) logan doesn't believe in paying college graduates what they're worth, and c) we may not be living in logan once mike graduates so why search for a new job only to leave it in a year? ultimately, i would like to assist the state in writing their construction proposals or find a job that will allow me to work from home. so for those who care, that's what i want to be when i grow up.

suzie is probably going to be disappointed in me, but i decided not to walk and go through the traditional graduation hooplah. i figured, why PAY money to rent a cap & gown and sit through a painfully long, boring, and based on feedback from last year--somewhat depressing--graduation ceremony? seems like a no-brainer, right? so mike and i decided to go play in salt lake. we did a little shopping (found a season of 24 and er for 15 bucks! i heart target), a lot of eating, and enjoyed spending a whole day together.

we met my family and grandparents for dinner at macaroni grill. i love my family and definitely got spoiled by my parents and grandparents. i love kennedy very much, but the real reason i took this picture is because megan joy (from american idol) is sitting behind her. people kept bugging her to take pictures with them, so we didn't want to bother her. instead we just tried to sneak in a picture without her noticing. on sunday, mike and my sister-in-law through a "surprise" party for me. (note: one of the many reasons i love mike is because he cannot keep secrets from me. i usually know what i'm getting for birthdays, christmas, and anniversary presents because he gets so excited that he can't wait to tell me. when he had to make a mysterious trip to the store on saturday, i only had to do a little questioning before he gave in and told me what was going on) it was fun to have an excuse to get together with everyone.
so there it is. the graduation celebrations. thank you to our families and mikey for making it a great weekend for me. it felt like my birthday, only without the getting older and wiser part. oh wait, i am much wiser now, right? i'm a college graduate!

Congrats!!! After all that hard work, you get to be spoiled for a weekend! I had an idea...with all the Federal Stimulus money out there, I know my work is actively applying for grants...maybe you could read up on the federal grants available and offer your grant writing services to cities and counties. You could work from home and I know we always like to use "professionals" rather than someone in house to write the big grants. It might be worth checking in to. See ya on Saturday!

Hooray! Maybe when Mike graduates you guys will come down here to the good ol' Wasatch Front, that would be lots of fun. Plus they do pay much better than Logan so that is a plus. Congrats on finally being finished.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. It led me to yours (which is awesome, by the way). Congratulations on graduation! Doesn't it feel great? As far as birthdays are concerned, I totally recommend the sewing machine. I got one for christmas last year, and I absolutely love it. Good luck with work and life, and let's keep in touch. Love ya!
