Come lead the music!
I got called to be the ward music chairman a month ago and just started doing it this month. I felt like I aged about 50 years when the bishop asked me and I get really really nervous when I lead the music. Before this dreadful call I was playing the piano which is the best church calling ever and it was the only time I got to play the piano since we don't have one. I'm used to being told by music directors that it doesn't really matter what I play on the piano because no one pays attention to the piano anyway, and I was fine with that. But now I have to stand in front of everyone and wave my arm around to lead the music? And direct the ward choir? (I hated choir in high school and only stayed in the class because my teacher wouldn't sign the form to let me drop it.) So after church yesterday, this little old lady told me that I was leading the music completely wrong, then she told the organist that he wasn't playing his songs at the right tempo. I made it home before I started crying and I am now begging for willing to accept volunteers who would like to take my place leading the music. Please?

Carly, I totally feel for you. I HATE leading and love playing. I play in primary right now, which is the DREAM calling. I will stay in it forever if they will let me. I get asked to sub for the organist from time to time and each time after someone tells me how I do it wrong and I cry. People need to by nice and just appreciate that we try :-) Or, they can come and do it instead...
I would definitely have to agree, that would probably be my very most dreaded calling. Sorry Car, but good luck and maybe you should tell the old lady to sit farther back so she can't see what you are doing. Noone else really pays attentions anyways do they? :)
I think you will do a great job! I swear old ladies think they know everthing! I can think of a few of those kind that you and I used to live by...
You should just tell her that it is the new way of doing things and she is way behind times. Then you could do it how every you want:)
Oh no!! Car I'm so sorry!! Of course it would be the little old lady to tell you how wrong you are doing everything!!! Ah...I'll pray for ya, good luck! Did you talk to meg? All of my comments seem to be ending in this...sorry
I would if I could dear! :)
Who tells someone they're doing it wrong? I don't know if I do it right but I just pretend and that works!
Best of luck and see you Thursday! :)
Ah, choir. I'll leave it at that.
Carly,I'm sure you do a fantastic job leading the music. Don't let a little old lady get ya down. I'm sure most people don't pay that much attention, do they? Just do your best and don't worry about everyone else. I think you'll do fine. :)
Shame on that lady! I think anyone willing to get up in front of others deserves only encouragement, not criticism. The Lord loves you for at least giving it a try.
I can't imagine a cuter person to look at while you're singing!I bet you do a great job!It amazing how many people have insecurities-even when they're little old ladies!
