Today is my dad's birthday. I love my dad so much. Here's why:


He writes lame poetry, which came in handy for school dances and once in seventh grade for Valentines Day when I made my dad write a poem on posterboard with candy bars that I gave to my crush. I'm sure the boy loved it :)

He is full of little bits of wisdom. When I say "I'm thirsty," he says, "I'm Gary, it's ncie to meet you thirsty." When I tell my dad I want something, he says, "If you had that and I had a feather under my nose, we'd both be tickled." Another favorite phrase, "If you want to dance, you've got to pay the fiddler."

He let me tag along to wrestling matches, basketball and football games, diving and swimming meets. I loved going to all the sporting events he went to while he was a high school principal.

I have always been able to talk to my dad about everything. He is a good listener and gives good advice.

He loves to play: he dances with Paige in the kitchen, he's not too shabby at DDR, he invented "the arm pit game;" he's always doing something to make us laugh.

He taught me to save money. When I'd get a whole 20 bucks for babysitting, he'd put 50% in savings, 10% for tithing, and leave the the 8 dollars to spend. I hated it when I was younger, but I'm grateful for it now.

He reads "Consumer Reports" like it's the bible and he could give you a power point presentation about Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

He introduced me to all kinds of music. We went to several Jazz concerts together while I was living in SLC. He was always a good sport to put up with the music I liked, too. He'd let me pick the music for the drive there, and he'd pick the music for the drive home.

He is a hard worker, good cook, and still one of my very best friends. I love you dad! Happy Birthday.
